Lunch

All right, so tell me.

What's for lunch today?

I really want to know.

Are you "brown bagging" it? Are you that unpopular? Or do you actually prefer staying in on your hour (or half hour) break, sadly munching your squishy little sammie or microwaving your leftovers and eating them out of the container? (Remember to "pop" the lid just a little!) Or are you woefully underpaid, and it was a choice between a glamorous lunch and clean laundry?

Are you going out? To the "usual" place? Or maybe an all-you-can-eat Indian buffet, so you don't have to worry about dinner but worry after lunch that you may have eaten enough not only for today but for the rest of the week as well?

Are you eating pizza crust off the street, a la my dog?

Are you foregoing lunch entirely so you can get that deadlined project in to the boss "ASAP!!!", and nibbling on Triscuits® at your desk while it prints out? Or are you foregoing lunch so you can Jazzercise®?

I want to know!

Me? I'm going to vacuum. And eat whatever collects in the little plastic bucket inside.

Even kibble and dog hair can be appetizing if served on a beautiful plate.

By the way, Scott (miso/edamame/gyoza Scott), you and Jay are welcome to move to this glamorous city, if you so desire. (Yes, I'm personally inviting you!) C'mon! You know you want to.

My homemade lunch was fixed at 12:30 so I could watch "You're Home" with Kitty Bartholomew in the background. It was my classic lunch... a sandwich on two slices of honey wheat berry bread, slathered with deli mustard, a few slivers of red onion, a big leaf of lettuce, 3 slices of brown sugar baked ham, 2 slices of roast turkey breast, and 2 slices of pastrami. I cut the sandwich in two, and push the halves apart. I then filled the spot in between with 1/2 cup of fruit salad with grapes, blueberries, plum slices, pineapple chunks and a bit of fresh peppermint. To drink, I had my favorite chai tea without any dairy products, just the spices, over ice.

My belly is happy. My point count: 6

Hmmm. Well, working from home today. Mulled around the kitchen. Wife out at business lunch. Feeling lazy. Ahhh! Dannon "Fruit on the Bottom," Peach. Tasty, but not quite satisfying.

The only half decent place in walking distance of my office is McDonalds. Subway is a quarter decent [only because the 16 year olds there take turns to wear the supervisors badge and give really lousy service].

So it's toast for me in the tearoom. Toast and cheese. Boring I know.

Ohh...I have dibs on the Pez©!

zero candy bar and a coke--the coke made me feel kind of ill so I left early (I go to a cheap business school, all we have is a candy machine. Or we can risk our health and get something from this man who cooks stuff in a trailer. He never washes his hands, and his food's too greasy) Or we can risk our life going out into traffic to get something from a fastfood place, and spend 20 min of our half hour lunch time trying to order it.

I'll just stick to the candy bar.

Offered by: Anita on July 30, 2002 3:18 PM

I had free lunch. It consisted of a cheeseburger and fries from a bar. The water (with lemon) tasted like hose water.

But my bosses paid for it.

I'm not eating lunch today. No money! I'll probably pop over to a friends house later to see if their parents have brought over anything for me to munch on..haha:) Im 22 and in college. I work full time, but tuition takes all of that. I am in summer classes right now, so I'm not at home.

I'm not complaining, I've been doing this for four years now. I'm almost done though! (yes, it will have taken me 5 years to get a 4 year degree). Then, once I'm done, I can eat! Great weight loss program though, only eat once a day and work your ass off at the gym:) At least I'm not cyber pan handling like some poeople AHEMSaveKarynAHEM....

Scott, sweeeeetie, I will forgive you your use of the "B" word if you will just share your lunch with me.

By the way ... While vacuuming, I moved one of the sofas aside, and found a strawberry Pop Tart (frosted), six assorted Pez, and a few french fries (still hot). Any takers? First come, first served!

Oh dear, I've committed a terrible sin. . . I'm not reading your blog at lunch, I'm perusing your your online journal.

I hate the word blog too, by the way.

Offered by: Scott on July 30, 2002 2:05 PM

I'm eating at my desk so I can read your delightful blog, darling! Miso soup, edamame, and gyoza dumplings from the sushi bar down the street. I eat at my desk for two reasons: 1) because it's my time to read the blogs, and 2) it's a desperate attempt to save some money and pay off some bills so we can blow this woeful city for a life more glamourous somewhere else.

Offered by: Scott on July 30, 2002 2:00 PM

As lovely as a glamourous luncheon sounds, I have the following problems: a.) Flat broke (underpaid monthly), b.) No nearby restaurants, and c.) On a diet/fitness program that excludes the carb/fat-smorgasbords that most restaurants serve.

Today, I have a soy-based meat substitute dish with barbeque sauce, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Be still, my beating taste buds. ;)

Hmmmm, well I DO have one of those bagless vacuum cleaners - I bet there are a few tasty hairballs in there courtesy of my pus, er I mean kitty. But really I think I will just go to Subway where they know me so well they start my salad as I am walking in the door. Much cleaner (I think).

Unfortunately we only get a half hour for lunch. Being that I work in a hospital library, we have a choice of the hoospital cafeteria or the hospital cafeteria. I don't think I need to explainhow bad the cafeteria food is. Plus we are like off in a deserted area where there is no place to go out to eat. I bring my own lunch, today isleftover burritos from last night. Yummy!
