I hate "bittersweet".
I hated walking through Union Square this afternoon and stopping dead in my tracks when I saw an Irish Setter puppy in the dog run who reminded me too much of my dog Shimmer as a pup in the early '70s. I hated standing there with my shopping bags, tears filling my eyes as I watched the pup's "dad" tossing two blue tennis balls to him and saw the long-limbed, thinly-fringed tailed, floppy-eared pup gleefully gambolling toward me. I hated wanting to take a picture of the adorable little guy so I could look at it on my monitor and cry over it later tonight after everyone else was asleep.
And I hated walking away.
I hate "bittersweet". It only works for me when it's chocolate.
fresh-baked at 04:33 PMThe joys of a furbaby....
2 couches (complete), 3 couches (partial), 2 comforters, a twin matress, uncountable throw pillows, 5 walls, one floor, 3 ceiling fan blades, chair legs... lots and lots of chair legs, assorted trim in assorted rooms, the front door, the back door, the bathroom door, mopst of 2 porches, 1 shower curtain, a toilet bowl, every wooden cooking utensil, a wok, exterior siding, the other half or each pair of socks that the drier monster missed, the first half of each pair of socks that the dryer monster hasn't gotten to yet, combat boots, a folding aluminum cot, every piece of carpet, each and every toilet brush but the current and its days are numbered (I've seen 'em eyeballing it), 3 box fans, 1 power cord, 17,000 speaker cords, 2,000 speakers, infinite phone cords, 4 phones, and the pear tree the partridge had to move out of. These are the things that have been destroyed by my various puppies as they teeth, have anxiety attacks, and froth at the mailman. And everytime I come home they rush to meet me in the middle of the stairwell. Everynight they curl up with me and keep me warm. Every time I leave they bark at the door.
I wouldn't give up my babies for the world, as animal control and the police have found out the hard way.

P.S. - I'd have pics except I haven't found a photo site that doesn't charge.

Offered by: JenBen on August 26, 2002 11:35 PMAll dogs are lovely, except ill-mannered yappy little fuckers. That's not all small dogs, just the bad ones.
I currently have my first ever dog, Miles, he's my litle go-to guy, and can do no wrong ;-)
I always liked dgos, but since getting him, I come to know exactly how to deal with all manner of dogs.
Offered by: Max on August 26, 2002 9:04 PMThe other day outside a mexican restaurant, I was the victim of a vicious barking attack from a Doberman in a car, but I couldn't help but think "ooooh, look at the doggy!"
Offered by: Dan the Goose on August 26, 2002 8:01 PMYou want that I come put my head in your lap and drool?
Okay, that didn't come out quite like I meant it....
Offered by: Sassy McSmartpants on August 26, 2002 6:57 PMI met a very cute dog today. It was on a patio by the side of the Thames somewhere near Richmond, and it was socialising. I was quite impressed. The dog had clearly said to its owners "Well, see you later, I'm off to do some mingling."
It was cute, well behaved, friendly and it told a really good joke about a fish and a corset.
