Why do vitamins smell so damned putrid?

What is that?

I'm not talkin' Chocks Chewables. Or purple Freds or pink Dinos, with or without that little iron coating that I used to scrape off when I was an enterprising, crafty youngster oh so many moons ago.

I'm talkin' regular vitamins. Good old-fashioned horse-pill sized vitamins with a new-fangled "vegetarian" twist (no gelatin, sugar, or starch). Multi-vitamins. Chock full of goodness and chock full of nauseating malodorous vomitatiousness.

What's the deal? Why the big stink?

It's the B vitamins that stink to high heaven - the ones that are supposed to be good for your nerves. It's a characteristic of the substances (no matter whether they are natural or not), and what you don't need your body gets rid of (hence the smell when having a pee, cause they are water soluable). Just be careful with the fat soluables (A and D for example) cause you can overdose fairly easily - you can't get rid of them so easily... ;-)
I bet now you feel like the little girl that closes the book and says "in that book is more information about penguins than I wanted to know" :-)))

I'm on several supplements right now. They make me burp. They make my pee smell. The taste stays with me all damn day.

These things are good for you, right?

ugh.

My prenatal vitamins smelled like vanilla. I would just sit and sniff them for a while before I took one.

One afternoon about 30 years ago, I crouched in my grandmother's walk-in linen closet and gobbled every "C" directly from the orange-shaped and -colored plastic bottle she kept there. Delicious!

For the most part, however, vitamins (or any pills) taste like bitter death when they sit on the tongue for longer than the nano-est of nanoseconds.

I dislike when the pill, any pill, starts melting in your mouth. Nothing you do (breath mints, tooth paste) will get rid of that taste!

MG --

Eating well is like living well. It's all relative to what you believe to be your definition of "well".

Eating well for me involves plenty of chocolate because it elevates that serotonin in just the right way without the cost of a prescription. Like generic Prozac.

They smell bad because they are good for you...isnt that the way of things?

I always noticed that too. I eat well and take my vitamins as extra measure. I dont know why they smell so bad. Maybe because they are vitamins which are natural, and because of that they stink? I dont know. If you find out..let me know!:)

I always thought the smell of Flintstones vitamins was nauseating. Tasted better than any candy though. Think I'll pick up some, just for old time's sake.

If you think vitamins smell bad, try chinese or tibetan herbs! They are truly vomitocious.

To make your pee smell like you take vitamins.

By the way, you are probably getting all the vitamins you need if you eat well.
