Yesterday morning I received an email from Wouter de Winter, the assistant to Belgian artist Wim Delvoye. In March, I visited the New Museum in Soho for the express purpose of viewing Delvoye's installation, "Cloaca", and wrote an entry detailing my experience. If you haven't read that entry, you can see it here. (It originally appeared on my old site, pre-Movable Type.)
Wouter de Winter has included a link to my piece on Cloaca's Belgian site. Check out the site itself, but also go to see that I am, indeed, "the shit", and not full of it.
fresh-baked at 09:00 AMfor me, the most distressing thing on that website was the tattooed pigs!
Offered by: Sofit on September 25, 2002 10:30 PMI'm so glad you were listed on their site! Woo hoo! You are "the shit", girl! I'm just glad to hear that there was no wiping afterwards with, say, a screen or something. That thought makes me cringe
All kidding aside, it's amazing that we can view an entirely NATURAL body function via machine and call it art....yet it happens with us everyday and it's gross. I mean, I'm not going to invite people in to watch me poop, but it's a natural thing!
Offered by: Joan on September 25, 2002 5:26 PMObviously I'm retarded (as evidenced by my blank post)....this is what you were meant to see... a relevant link (I hope anyways, or else you may have to ban me for retardedness):
A Brief History of Excremental Art
Offered by: deliah on September 25, 2002 1:31 PMYou should have written it in rhyming couplets, and then you'd have had Poetry In Motions*.
*God, I hope this isn't lost in the UK/US translation.
Offered by: Max on September 25, 2002 12:42 PMI would like to point out that while Americans seem to be the butt of all jokes, it took a Euro-pee-an to come up with a machine that poops and call it art.
I thought we already had a machine that spewed crap out; the television.
Offered by: Thomas on September 25, 2002 12:10 PMHa, ha, ha! Oh shit! I didn't mean to say that! Yes I did! A kaka machine! Can you feed it, say, corn kernels and get speckled poop? Does it get constipated? Does it wipe itself? Is it related to this machine?
