Lunch, for a song

All right. It's time to stop letting you vote "officially" in last week's lunch poll. Anyone who votes from this point on is a cheater who is trying to skew the results and act like they knew all along which lunch was mine and which was Elaine's and will try to fly on the flapping coattails of the adoration I reserve for those who know me well enough to know that my dish was the vegetarian meatloaf with mashed potatoes.

See, if you put two and two together, and paid even marginal attention to the items listed in the entry preceding that one, you would have noticed a little tidbit where I indicate a sort of rabid (although not quite to the point of fetish, thankfully) attraction to mashed potatoes, and then thought, "Hey! One of those dishes contains potatoes of a mashed variety!" and thus voted for the CORRECT one rather than think that I was the sort of girl who'd eat salad for lunch. You may also know, from reading way way back, that I have a special sort of attraction (this one bordering on fetish) for TV dinners and noted the name of the vegetarian meatloaf dish and known, by putting two and two and two together and raising it to the tooth power, that I could not resist based on that element alone.

So there you have it. The mystery is solved!

And now I have for you a song that makes me happy no matter what. It is by Cat Stevens, although it does not appear on "Tea for the Tillerman", which is one of the albums I mentioned in the entry that 61% (40) of those of you who voted (66) didn't read closely enough to realize that I would just about kill a man for mashed potatoes.

I guess it would be adorable if the song were the one about "doing the mashed potato" (a dance popular among '50s youth), but that's just too much. Instead, enjoy this.

And, while you're at it, tell me what you had for lunch!

Meg, I'm done with Jodi. I want to marry you.

Sure, I had a can of Progresso vegetable soup for lunch, but I remember eating the still beating hearts of my enemies back home in Mongolia when I was a young Ghengis Khan. Ah, those were the days!

I totally knew it was the "meat"loaf.

AA AA AAA, IT'S EA SY. God, I love that song. Sigh.

There are things that are worth blowing ... your diet for ... and that is one of them, Titus.

Jodi,

Meg said she had a diet cock for lunch. That stands on it's own merits as humorous. I, on the other hand, had a double ham and jalapeno cheese sandwich with real mayo on cheap wheat bread, a bag of Doritos Cool Ranch chips, a Little Debbie oatmeal cake, and washed it all down with decaf ice tea featuring real sugar. It may stun you to learn that in spite of this kind of behavior I am found attractive by respectable women. Meg, however, would not appreciate my rich and very fattening cock.

i had a disagreement on the phone with someone last night as to what you ate for lunch. i said the veggie meatloaf and she argued that that was too carb-o-rific. i know that the carb thing (whatever THAT was) is so over.

i was correct. i am always correct. i don't know why people bother.

someone recently tried to tell me that it was okay to use steel wool on teflon pans.

I've been reading your blog long enough to KNOW that you were eating the vegetarian meatloaf!

As it turns out, I just finished a vegetarian meatloaf sandwich with peach soy yogurt for lunch!!

OK...so I'm not Nancy Drew and yes, I voted for salad because it was pretty. For lunch, I had Long Island Cheese Pumpkin Soup and a tortilla with melted pepperjack cheese...yum.

Cat Stevens...one of the truly best at making me smile and twirl until I fall to the ground.

Warning: looooong comment here!

I've gotta tell ya, "Sing Out" is one of my favorite Cat Stevens tunes. Cat Stevens was my dad's favorite singer. His favorite film was "Harold & Maude" and it's no surprise that it's my favorite, too.

My boyfriend gave me a "Harold & Maude" DVD for my very own for Chanuka because he knows how much I enjoy this quirky, funny, poignant film from 1971 (I made him rent it in November and he remembered how much I adore it in December when it came time for gift-giving.)

I'm guessing you've received a few emails bashing Cat Stevens in response to your post, no? Whatever his religious or political beliefs may be, I still maintain that he was one of the most prolific folk singers of his generation. It's only now, 20+ years after my father's passing that I can actually listen to his music without crying (and sometimes I still do!)

By the way, if you haven't seen "Harold & Maude", I highly recommend it. The entire soundtrack is by CS. "Sing Out" is played in the closing moments when Harold finally stops going to funerals and conducting "fake" suicides for entertainment purposes and finally embraces life. To tell you more about this would be cluing you in to the ending and the message of this little quirky film! Changing topics... I had steamed veggies and (your favorite) TOFU for lunch with miso soup.

I can't REMEMBER for sure now, but I think I voted wrong on your lunch last week.

I had a greasy, medium rare, mozzarella cheese burger with mayo for lunch today. And TWO Diet Cokes.

Oh my god, you've got... comments!

Jowds, I had an apple (nature's toothbrush). Some of it was eaten with cheese and some was eaten with peanut butter. The leftover cheese was consumed with spelt crackers.

I am now going to have a bowl of Puffins with soy milk. I swear.

I sense a demographic in your readership.

A "grilled cheese" - melted soy cheese, broccoli, minced garlic, and sun-dried tomato on a whole wheat tortilla. And then I had a diet coke.

Also glad to read that I am not the only one who spends over $200 at Whole Foods.

For lunch today, I enjoyed my favorite winter lunch, homemade sloppy joes with a handful of jalapeno potato chips and a can of Coke with lime. And there is more left for tomorrow!

Hey I was just going to write this on lunchisfun, since I was in the neighborhood....Fluffy scrambled eggs (1 egg, 1 egg white, crumbled tofu) and toasted dense and yummy Portuguese bread. And a glass of water. signed, the salad eater herself!

Don't laugh.

- Chunky Chicken and Dumplings soup (thanks, Mama McNabb!)
- Vending machine Doritos (75 cents)
- An apple that I cored and divided using an apple corer and divider (use the right tool for the job, I always say)
- Dannon Strawberry Light & Fit Yogurt Smoothie (which, for once, I didn't spill on my keyboard)

Ok, go ahead, laugh.

I knew you were a taters kind of gal. For lunch, I had my favorite from the Greek kiosk in the Park Shops next door to my office building:

Two beef skewers
Cauliflower
To die for fruit salad
Pita wraps (for the meat)
Iced tea

FIRST POST! (Oh, the joys of RSS)

For lunch, I had my special concoction - a sausage, melted cheese, and chilli chutney baguette (on brown). It's what I always have when I order from the deli round the corner from the office.
