I hate when people say, "You can't make this shit up," because if you have any imagination at all you can make anything up. But here's one for the so-called books, if you will (or even if you won't):
Blue laws in Bergen County, New Jersey, prohibit the purchase of bath towels and air conditioners on Sunday.
I shit you not. This information was related to me by a stunned boyfriend who just returned from Costco after a trip there to buy his beloved (that would be yours truly) an air conditioner so she doesn't have to suffer the swelter for longer than she had sentenced herself.
Color me baffled, damn it all to hell (which would be my apartment sans air conditioner! LOLz!)!
fresh-baked at 02:22 PMI have no response, because I couldn't fathom any (ENFORCED) laws that were more strange than the ever-changing liquor laws in Utah.
Offered by: Kate on August 10, 2008 2:26 AMdid you mean hair conditioners?

Offered by: jamied on August 5, 2008 10:26 PMPlease explain! Or am I going to have to google Blue Laws myself, just when I had convinced myself to do laundry! :)
Offered by: Leslie on August 5, 2008 12:05 PMIf it's sultry and hot indoors, then you might get sexually aroused like they do in New Orleans and other warm climates.
Then you might have sex and sweat a lot.
Then you might need a shower, then a bath towel.
So obviously, the state of New Jersey frowns on Sunday fornication.
Here in Indiana, it's illegal to buy both alcohol and motor vehicles on Sunday. I kinda get alcohol, since it might make drunken white trash sober up and not beat their kids/spouses one day out of the week but the no car-buying thing? I hardly think that keeping people out of the showroom is gonna drive 'em back into the pews.
Offered by: mike on August 4, 2008 9:00 AMOK. Air conditioners properly used can cause erect nipples, which as we know are the devil's workshop. but towels? Those haven't been a threat since the public baths pere destroyed at Pompei in 149 AD...
