I'm auctioning an entire collection of
vintage and antique dolls all with one owner, so please see my other
auctions for more great finds. This little guy
was in excellent condition until we pulled it out of storage and
accidently bumped his head! The body is in great condition, and saved
as many of the pieces of the head as we could. Needs some TLC to
restore it. It is marked on the back with a Stork and the numbers 7A. I
understand it was made by Parsons Jackson is called a Biskoline Baby
Doll circa 1920. This doll was an American-made (and lower cost)
competitor to the German bisque head character dolls from Armand
Marseille, Gebruder Heubach and others.
The
doll baby looks like a typical German character baby, with composition
body ... but it's made out of thick, overpainted celluloid
(Parsons-Jackson called the material "biskoline." )
Doll
has the Parsons-Jackson stork mark on the back of the head and body. He
is 14" in length. Condition: This is not the paper-thin material you
think of when you hear the word "celluloid." The feel and weight are
more like composition than celluloid. The head is broken and cracked,
but the body is in excellent condition. Could possible be used for
parts. Painted body and facial features appear to be all original and
unrestored. Not sure why there's a hole in his crotch area. Doesn't
interfer with the way body could be used.
A rare doll for parts or restoration.
